Bauhaus Chess Set (with board)

This classic design in chess sets by Josef Hartwig (1923) is manufactured by Naef Spiele AG of Switzerland under licence from the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin and represents the ultimate in the Bauhaus FFF principle of design (Form Follows Function). Stripped of all symbolism, the pieces reflect their movement on the chess board in their form; a cross for the bishop, an L-shape for the knight, etc. The set comes complete with a box (44 x 7.5 x 4.5 cm) to hold the pieces and the playing board (36 x 36 x 1.2 cm).
