Gabriel Jimenez was born in Chile and now lives in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. He has travelled the world extensively, recording his impressions through his camera lens and his paintings and his poetry. Many of Gabriel's paintings are done in the encaustic style. The process itself is as old as the ancient Egyptian civilisation. It is a mixed medium where pigments are combined with hot wax. Because of this, as Gabriel says, "when I work with heated wax there is a certain alchemy which occurs and I must work quickly, on the edge of control, to capture my vision". A true romantic, for his first solo exhibition in Australia, Gabriel invites you to share his 'poesia del alma', his visual and oral "poetry of the soul".
